We visited the Bellefontaine Cemetery last friday. I couldn't bring myself to convert this next set of photos to black and white. The colors of Fall have been gorgeous.

These kind of images are, by far, the most affecting for me. There is something about the worn and weathered look of a face that speaks of care and long suffering.

Of all the locations in Saint Louis that I have photographed, the two cemeteries in North Saint Louis are my favorite. In the Fall, few places are more beautiful. The quiet atmousphere and surrounding sculpture is a rare place of beauty and repose.

The colors of Autumn and the soft muted tones of grey colored stone. I like the expression of her face and folds of her robe and the way the weatherd stone adds depth to the piece.

Truth be told, Angels in scripture are terrible beings. Though they have no sex as we understand it, they are masculine in nature and in all recorded accounts, terrible enough to scare even battle hardened soldiers and commanders of war.
The cherubim have among their ranks Gabriel, and Lucifer, and probably Michael. Having said all that, I like the sensibility and emotion conveyed by the modern interpretation of the Cherub. A kind of soft and childlike comfort, not meant for war but peace.

If I had more time I would compose a poem to compliment this image. Alas, I am too busy. I like the way the trees frame her figure, and the way the stature leans slightly forward. I think it may need cropping a little, to center the image, but I'm not sure.

This one was more weathered than most, and the figure has a distinctly medieval look about the face and hair.

This angel reminds me of what I would expect to appear before the empty tomb of Christ, proclaiming, "He is not here, He is risen as He said!".

I like the mournful expression on his face. In recent days his expression has been remeniscient of my moods. Wishing for something, hopes and desires unrequited.

Angeline, Fair Angeline, where hast thou been?
Thy love is waiting for thee here.
How long will you run, what troubles befall thee
That you must flee in fear?

Few things are as beautiful or made to suit cold and grey weather like the runes and designs of the Celts. Always did love the particular asthetic of the Celtic Cross and the Endless Knot.

We were able to finally visit a cemetery on Saturday. I took a good number of photos, many of which you will see here. My taste in art lends itself to photos like these. I apologize in advance to any of my readers [all three or four of you ;) ] if you get tired of this type of photo.
Having gotten the disclaimer out of the way, I titled this photo "Forgiveness" because the perspective puts the cross in the position you would see it if you were kneeling in front of it. You might notice the use of lens vignetting, which I think accentuates the centerpiece of the Cross.
Oh, and this one's for you Wycliff

This photo seems to elicit the idea that it is confident, facing the future of whatever comes with complete surety. It is bold, and worthy of such a pose.

Another view of Irish scenery from that cemetery in Rosscarbery. Of the time I spent there, I think that half hour in that cemetery was what I enjoyed most. I just love the very very old feeling and the beauty of the celtic crosses and gravestones.

Over the next few days, I will be posting a series of photos from a visit to Calvary Cemetery. These were all taken in the early morning. I think I prefer the light of early morning better than the evening golden hour, for some reason it seems softer and a little more silvery.
