With a Word

Published On: June 1, 2006  19:00, filed in Verse
She was lost, and the pain in her heart
Was far more than she could bear
Alone in the garden, it tore her apart
Till she heard Him speak her name

Then hope dawned, and night broke
And joy swelled in her soul
She saw her Saviour standing there
With a word He made her whole

I was scared, with no hope of salvation
Crying out in guilt and shame
So deep was the depth of dejection
Till I heard Him speak my name

Then hope dawned, and night broke
And joy swelled in my soul
I saw my Saviour standing there
With a word He made me whole

I am saved, and have joy and sweet succor
Beside me throughout each day
I take courage and know His good pleasure
When I hear Him speak my name

When hope dawns, and night breaks
And joy swells in my soul
I see my Saviour standing there
With a word He makes me whole

Death, O Fallen Angel (Death Be Not Proud revisited)

Published On: June 2, 2006  15:00, filed in Verse
Oh Death! Thou vaunted fool, proud son of sin's defiling,
Oft thought of as potent, supreme, and unyielding
How hast thou fallen, been debased and made servile
Those who feared thy touch, who you thought to defile
Will not be brought low, nor in dark oblivion sleep.
For thy touch, no longer bitter, is so very sweet,
And though the greatest men slip the bounds of earth
To rest because of thee, yet you are bound by birth
And the life of one man, whom you could not contain.
And you do even choose the time and station in vain,
Being subject to the beck and call of every beggarly
Thief, proud king, and common chance. In the company
Of disease and contagion, you pass your time, for you
Have no better association. Thy touch is soft in lieu
Of pain, as once it was, now dulled and sweetened till
The passage of this life, with opiate and dream will
Slip peacefully into eternal bliss. O Death, where now
Is thy vaunted pride. Gone, and no longer can'st thou
Escape thine own touch. O Death, even thou wilt die,
Eternal death for you awaits, when we see Him in the sky

The man in the photo is the owner, who was nice enough to give me carte blanche access to the place. He said, before he bought it, that he had snuck in and looked around, and wouldn't want to deprive me of the same priviledge. ;)

I'd almost forgotten about this. Years ago, a friend of mine (who I have since lost contact with), let me put up a few pieces of art he had created. This was one of my first attempts at web design, so be nice. ;)   His site can be found here: www.aaronpanagos.com

A black rhino who isn't very black. I've been combing the archives for pictures and found a few that I missed, mostly from excursions I took during my hiatus. I've got some photos from the zoo, the Cathedral Basilica, Calvary Cemetery, snow, and the Arch. So stay tuned.

Urgent: Prayer Request for Andrew Wright

Published On: June 17, 2006  17:26
As of right now, a little boy is struggling to live through a bad case of cerebral malaria and a risky blood transfusion performed in Soroti Uganda. He is semi-comatose, responding to pain and occasionally touch, and in need of better medical care than Soroti can provide. They have to wait till morning (its about 3am there) till they can have him air lifted to Kampala. Your prayers would are coveted.

Update: (an excerpt from an email)
Because the medical clinic in Kampala does not have the medical equipment which would be needed if his kidneys failed, our insurance company wants Andrew flown by air ambulance to Johannesburg, South Africa. They leave at 2:00 am local time in Uganda which is 6:00 pm Central time. (7:00 Eastern). The doctors in Kampala had said they wanted to keep him sedated until about Tuesday then try to slowly try to bring him out of it. Pray for the doctors in South Africa will have wisdom making all these decisions. Please pray that Andrew will endure the trip and remain stable. And please pray for his parents and grandparents and the many Ugandans who are also affected by all of this. The missionaries in Soroti are doing all they can to help – spending the night at the hospital last night so Nate and Sara could sleep, meeting the plane, transporting Andrew and parents to the plane (no ambulance available) etc. Marvin and Jewell Wright (grandparents) drove to Kampala as soon as it was light this morning so they could be there with them. I haven’t heard who is going to South Africa. Please continue to pray fervently for this special little MK. Thanks so much.

Update 2:

Thank you all for praying. Andrew is doing much better. He was flown to South Africa over the weekend, and is now awake and more responsive. The tests they have run so far have come back clean. They hope to be able to release him by next Monday. Your prayers are still appreciated, but praise God for what He has done so far. :)

Update 3: June 22 12:03 am

Andrew is doing very well. All tests came back clear, and they hope to be able to release him this weekend. Thanks for all the prayers!
